Now available by The Motor Masters is a 1980 Jeep CJ5 Base for sale. This Jeep is one of the last of short-wheelbase CJ5s. Their maneuverability and light weight made them very desirable for off road use and also fun to sport around town in. However, due to a rigged test done by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety that aired on 60 Minutes, they were portrayed as unsafe. The CJ5 had already been replaced by the CJ7 with its longer wheelbase. This CJ5, short wheel base and all, could be yours if the price is right.
This Jeep looks like a party vehicle waiting to happen. As you approach it, the Brown paint really jumps out at you. Up front is the chrome grill, better known as a 7-slot grill, that has been on every Jeep since WWII and a simple bumper. The hood is held down with spring loaded latches, and there are rubber edges on the fenders. The tires make this little truck sit up a bit over stock, but the Jeep still drives nice and smooth. A padded roll bar looks classically great for top off cruising, but there is also a new Bestop soft top that can be popped on for all weather or winter driving. A rare feature on the CJ5s is the tailgate that this one has. It’s a handy little convenience.
This is a 1980 CJ5 Jeep from Arizona fully frame off restored with only 110 miles on it since restored. Has new paint, interior, and new soft top with a 3 inch lift.
